Thanks for visiting Philly Tales and Trails. A blog about all things I love about living in Philadelphia, my hometown, and my new found love of running.
Running the Rothman 8K Christmas in July 5K – 1st Prize in my age category
I was never so happy to be in the 50+ age group 🙂
I began this blog as a way to document my journey to train for the Broad Street Run. A ten mile race right through the “City of Brotherly Love.”
So here’s my story….
My name in Kim. I was born and raised in Philadelphia. I love the Phillies, Stock’s pound cake (a local favorite that you MUST sample, if ever in Philly), and summers at the shore. Oh and another reason to run, I teach middle school at an all boys school. And yes, some days there is not enough wine! So I — JUST RUN! Here’s how it all started…I wanted to squeeze a little workout into my long day of teaching and tutoring, so I asked my after school students if they were interested in running with me (We are in after school from 3:00-6:00. A very long day for these guys and their teacher!). A rousing “YES” and we were off and running! It was clear from day one that I was in over my head. This was in February of 2012, just after I recovered from surgery to remove a cancerous tumor and completed 12 rounds of chemotherapy, but that didn’t stop me! I set my short term goal to run a 5k in May, 2012, with my long term goal to run the 10 mile Broad Street Run in 2013. Well since then, I am happy to report that I have completed seven 5Ks, an 8K, a 10K, and so the journey to Broad Street begins…
